In the last update (about two weeks ago), we enlarged the text on the number buttons of the calculator series apps. The original intention was that, with smartphone resolutions getting higher and higher, slightly larger text might be more convenient for users.
Unexpected User Feedback
However, things rarely go as planned. We received feedback from a few users who complained that the enlarged text was actually less user-friendly. One friend from Japan even left a one-star review with a complaint, but by the time I went to respond, the review had already been deleted, likely because they had uninstalled the app before I had the chance to apologize.
Addressing the Issue: Adding Customizable Text Size
It was never my intention for a well-meaning change to backfire like this. So, I worked overtime to implement a feature that allows users to adjust the text size of the buttons themselves, giving everyone the flexibility to customize the button text size to their liking.
User Customization in Settings
Personally, I prefer larger text, so I can set it bigger. Some of my friends like smaller text, and that’s fine too. In the general settings screen, there is now an additional section where you can drag a slider to adjust the text size—choose what suits you best.
Update Rollout Plan
All calculator series apps have now been updated, and once Google approves the review, the updates will begin rolling out. The update for the Travel Calculator will be slightly delayed. Since it has a higher number of installs, I’ll be using a phased rollout to minimize the impact of any unforeseen issues.
Apology and Future Update Strategy
Once again, I apologize for the inconvenience caused by my oversight. Going forward, future updates will focus primarily on bug fixes, with no major feature changes planned.
This approach aligns with my long-held belief that if something works well, it doesn’t need constant change. A good app is one that serves its purpose when it matters most.
